Animated Shorts

May 10, 2021 | Movies/TV Shows

When I was in film school I watched a lot of shorts. It was pretty much the only type of medium film and television students produced, so there was an abundance. I can remember getting dvd’s with nothing but a blank white sticker on them and having absolutely no idea what to expect. For the most part, they were bad, but as a student, no one was expected to be a Spielberg. And, to be honest, it didn’t matter if the acting, cinematography, sound design or story weren’t top notch, we were all doing something we loved. So I could enjoy all of them, even if they weren’t perfect.

However, I was always amazed at the what the animation department produced. Because it took so much more time than live action, the animation students never produced as much content, so perhaps they needed to filter what they did, think about it longer. And because it took longer, they may have had the opportunity to polish it a bit more. The animation shorts were my favorite.

Nowadays, I’m sad to admit, most of my YouTube history consists of board game reviews, late night clips and animal videos. (BTW you should totally check out the donkey shenanigans that happen on the Jacobs Ridge Channel.) But the other day the YouTube algorithms recommended an animated short about a fox (to be fair it did have animals in it) that led me down a rabbit hole over the weekend. I have watched so many of them now that I wanted to share some of them with you guys. So here you go…

Spring

The Fox and the Bird

Windup
