Llamaland
We got an entire case of Llamaland ages ago but for some reason I was never super interested in playing it. Sure I love llamas, but I think I was constantly confusing it with Altiplano (another game I have yet to play, but again, no interest). David learned the game, liked it and ended up doing a teach of it. And so I learned it with the Members and really enjoyed it.
So, how the game works … Llamaland is a tile layering game, where you are a farmer and on your turn you draft pieces of farmland that have different shapes (think Tetris pieces). Then you place your pieces on your farm and get the item you cover up: coins, cacao, corn and/or potatoes, or a towns which get you a character card giving you some sort of power. You then use the items to purchase … lure? llamas onto your farm.
Scoring is very interesting. First, you get points for each of your llamas, but it’s how you get llamas onto your farmland that will get you the biggest chunk of your end game points. There’s 7 end of game scoring cards (which is nice because your scoring can be different every game). Sometimes you need to get specific llama, 4 llamas on different farm plateau levels, llamas in a straight row, or llamas really far apart from each other.
Despite my severe issue with spatial awareness, I really liked this game. The rules are fairly uncomplicated, but there is enough meat in the challenge to sink your teeth in.
So, if you’ve seen this game, and like me, passed on it, check it out. It’s a good one.
